Dear Web3 Community Manager...

Updated: Sep 8, 2022

A letter to web3 community managers

Dear Web3 Community Professionals,

I'm glad you went down this road. Although it is difficult, we can't really put an end to passion. I appreciate you supporting Web3 by being more than just a consumer. Thank you for investing your time and resources in building web3 communities. I appreciate you speaking at events, imparting knowledge, writing blogs, and helping others understand this new technology. Most of all, thank you for bringing new users to Web3. You are the heroes of blockchain technology.

I hope all is well with you. I hope you're not feeling overwhelmed by the frustration that comes with a failed approach; that the numerous inquiries you answer each day still excite you as much as they did at first; and that the enthusiasm you felt when you got your first role hasn't faded. I hope you never lose sight of the fact that you are the life of the party—the strange guy up front who yells jokes to keep everyone happy. Always remember that even if the reward doesn't show appreciation, you are a hero. You are the person who came up with unique ideas to change strangers into family and visitors into supporters. Making the most of every second, you managed to communicate the team's bad news without unsettling the community. Your community is in your thoughts when you get up because you have made this your lifestyle.

No matter where you are in your career—from brand-new and unsure of what to do to a professional—you will win. I hope this letter serves as a reminder to schedule time for yourself, to touch grass and take a break to cool off, to make time to learn new things and improve your skills, interact with people in the real world and build new relationships, and to explore other web3 opportunities. It's very fine for a plan to fall short. Don't dwell on your regrets; instead, make the best of every situation. People have lives outside of Web3, so it's not unusual if the community is not as bustling as it normally is. Remember, no one knows everything. We all benefit when we share the extraordinary experiences and abilities that each of you has to offer. Technology exists to make life easier; make sure you optimize every tool. Keep doing what you love, dear community manager; you are on the right path.

Sincerely,

Etimbuk
